Who’s Bringing This to Perth?
The event is organized by the Far Western Nepalese Association of Western Australia, a community-driven group dedicated to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the Far Western region of Nepal. They work tirelessly to bring the essence of their homeland to Western Australia, ensuring that traditions like Gaura Parba continue to thrive, even far from home.
What is Gaura Parba?
Gaura Parba is more than just a festival; it’s a celebration deeply rooted in the history of the Nepali language and the ancient Khas kingdom. Originating in the Far Western regions of Nepal, particularly in places like Doti and Kumaon, Gaura Parba has been celebrated for centuries. The festival is marked by various religious rituals and activities, usually observed from the 6th to the 8th of Bhadra Shukla Paksha. It’s a time when communities come together to honor their shared history, language, and cultural heritage.
